The Ultimate Fourth of July Beauty Survival Guide ☀️🇺🇸

The Ultimate Fourth of July Beauty Survival Guide ☀️🇺🇸

The Fourth of July is an event, an outing, a reason to have a killer outfit and look good. It’s one of my favorite weekends of the summer. Whether you’re headed to the lake, the pool, a backyard BBQ, fireworks, or just spending time with family and friends, there’s one thing we all have in common—we want to look good and still enjoy the day.

Unfortunately, summer heat, humidity, chlorine, and the Kansas sun can be tough on your skin and hair. Here are my favorite tips to help you enjoy the holiday while keeping your glow all weekend long.

Sunscreen Is Your Best Friend

I know…everyone says it, but it’s for good reason.

Sunburn isn’t just uncomfortable—it can speed up skin aging, contribute to uneven pigmentation, and increase your risk of skin cancer. Apply a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30 before heading outside, and don’t forget to reapply every two hours (or more often if you’re swimming or sweating).

Tinted sunscreen is amazing if you want a little coverage while still protecting your skin. And don’t forget to embrace the lifeguard nose—adding a little extra sunscreen right across the bridge of your nose is both cute and smart.

Don’t skip easy-to-miss areas like your ears, scalp part, lips, tops of your feet, and the back of your neck.

Your Skin Can Be Damaged Before It Looks Red

Have you ever come inside after a day in the sun and your skin feels tight, hot, or sore—even though it doesn’t look burned yet?

That’s because UV damage starts before the redness appears. If your skin feels warm, dry, or sensitive, it’s already asking for some extra care.

Once you’re home, cool your skin down with a lukewarm shower, apply a gentle moisturizer, and drink plenty of water to help your body recover. Aloe vera is also a great option to soothe and calm your skin after a long day in the sun.

Protect Your Hair From the Pool

Blondes especially—this one’s for you!

Chlorine can leave your hair feeling dry and, in some cases, even give blonde hair a green tint.

Before you jump in, wet your hair with clean water first. If you have long hair or extensions, braid it or wear it in a loose ponytail. Applying a leave-in conditioner can create a little extra barrier.

After swimming, rinse your hair as soon as possible and shampoo when you get home.

Keep Your Spray Tan Looking Fresh

If you’ve had a spray tan before the holiday weekend, a little preparation goes a long way.

Avoid scrubbing your skin, pat yourself dry instead of rubbing with a towel, moisturize daily, and try to avoid long, hot showers. These simple steps will help your tan fade more evenly and last longer.

Beat the Humidity

Kansas humidity has a mind of its own.

Instead of fighting it, work with it. Loose waves, braids, ponytails, or a cute claw clip style will usually hold up much better than trying to keep every strand perfectly straight.

A little texture spray or lightweight hairspray can also help your style survive the day.

Hydration Makes a Difference

Your skin, hair, and body all benefit from staying hydrated.

Bring a water bottle with you, especially if you’re spending the day outside. Eating foods with high water content like watermelon is another easy way to stay hydrated while enjoying your holiday. Alcohol may seem hydrating if you’re drinking more, but it’s not—so be mindful and balance it out with water. Liquid IV is a great option to help keep you properly hydrated.

Don’t Forget About After-Sun Care

Even if you didn’t get burned, your skin has been working hard all day.

That evening, wash away sunscreen, sweat, and chlorine, apply a good moisturizer, give your hair a little extra love with a conditioning treatment, and get a good night’s sleep. Your skin and hair will thank you.

Have a Safe and Happy Fourth!

I hope everyone has a fun, safe holiday celebrating with family and friends. Enjoy the sunshine, make some memories, and don’t forget to take care of your skin and hair while you’re out making the most of summer. And please be safe with those fireworks—especially the homemade ones. Keep all your fingers safe!

Happy Fourth of July! ❤️🤍💙
